Meet our leader

Born September 9th in Radford, Virginia to Whitfield & Lucille Carter, he was the youngest of four boys and two girls. He attended Fred Wygle and Bethel Elementary Schools in Radford, VA until his family relocated to Roanoke, VA where he attended Booker T. Washington Jr. High and Lucy Addison High School.

He was a spiritually grounded man during his military tenure in the USAF. He was an Elder at True Vine Community Church of God in Christ, where he would serve his community in various capacities. While volunteering as a counselor at a camp for underprivileged youth on Orcas Island, he met the beautiful Darcel Marie Boyd after nine years of military service.  After almost five years of marriage, while both worked diligently in the ministry, God gifted them with a daughter, Darlene Elizabeth, and two years later, Darcel Renee Faith came along.

Pastor Larry W. Carter founded the Good Hope Community Church of God in Christ in January 1990 in Manitou Community Hall until the Lord allowed us to purchase a building at 1620 S. Adams St. in November 1993. In 2011, the Lord continued to bless, and we were able to purchase a multi-purpose facility located at 614 East 64th Street where we work in community development and youth involvement programs.  This is our current home, but the Lord will continue to make a way as we plan to build in phases.

After retiring from the military, he received his AA in Pastoral Studies from IBET, a BA in Psychology from Northwest University, and Master's and Doctorate degrees from North Carolina College of Theology. Pastor Carter has been appointed to various positions in the State and Local District Jurisdiction. He was a former chairman of the State’s Ordination Board and former Chairman of the State Program Committee. He now serves as the 1st Administrative Assistant to the Jurisdictional Bishop and Superintendent for the Puget Sound District.
